Nothing seems to go right for Oliver from the start. He wakes in the middle of the night to find he is home alone and his house on the seaside of a little English town in 18th century England is literally falling apart in a storm. His sister is gone, his father has gone to chase after her and Oliver is left to fend for himself. He tries to make his way to London on his own, but there are always things impeding his progress. Those things are grown-ups! They think they know what’s better for Oliver than he does. He has to lie, cheat and steal his way to London, only to be shocked by finding what has really happened to his sister! Loosely based on history, funny, sad, and at times heartfelt, I was easily swept up into this story and taken along with Oliver on all of his adventures.
