by Jeffrey Toobin
Jeffrey Toobin does it again in this great book about the Patty Hearst case. As with his book about the OJ Simpson Trial (The Run of His Life) Toobin has taken a case that became a media circus and cultural touchstone, and distilled it down to the facts. Toobin acknowledges that he encountered some difficulty as Ms. Hearst declined to be interviewed; nevertheless the book is meticulously researched and draws upon books, interviews, and other sources to create a full picture of Patty Hearst and the events surrounding her. Well written and engrossing, it’s a good record for those that experienced it, or those who wish to learn more about a strange chapter in American history.
