By Tony Sandoval
Short but important, Sandoval’s graphic novel covers an important subject- immigration and what people do to get to America. Rather than covering it as an observer, Sandoval gets personal and narrates his own journey over the border in the late 90’s. While he has a sense of humor about his experience, he does not shy away from the dangers he faced, and the even greater hardships those from other countries faced just to get to Mexico, let alone America. Considering immigration in all of its forms is a hot topic, this is definitely a book people should read, especially if they have never had to immigrate. Sandoval talks about the various roadblocks to legal entries and why some risk everything to come to America. It’s a personal and humanizing work about a subject that tends to get simplified.
