Young Lives in New China

By Alec Ash

Wish Lanterns is a fascinating new book about six young people in China. Ash does well by the six subjects, telling their stories and giving them a voice that may not be heard otherwise. The most interesting are Mia, a young fashion designer, and Fred, the daughter of a political party official whose political views evolve. China is a nation of over 1 billion people who are usually viewed as a monolith, or even a potential threat. Reading this book, one will see there are similarities between those who will inherit China and the youth of our nation. Well worth a read!
