Lady fans of Sherlock Holmes spin-offs rejoice!  Reading this clever book took me right back to the summer I discovered the Holmes stories and spent countless hours lounging on the couch puzzling over solutions within strange and convoluted plots.  I was well into this Study before I figured out the Holmes connection, but the “modifications” are both credible and intriguing, offering insight into Holmes’ character development.  Period details are delightfully grim,  while the plot development kept me riveted up to the very last page.  The clever twists and resolutions are worthy of Doyle. There is a bit of romantic fluff incorporated which I found unnecessary, but if that expands this series’ audience and guarantees a sequel, then I can overlook it’s inclusion.
