caravalBy Stephanie Garber

For anyone who has read The Night Circus, this title should peak your interest.  A rare, magical carnival that only appears to those who want it the most (or by invitation only).  A game that involves two seemingly unwilling players: sisters from a conquered kingdom who fear their abusive father above all else; along with a ring master with revenge on his mind pulling all the strings.  I loved the challenge this story posed because I kept trying to figure out where it was going, only to realize I was wrong each time.  I also kept trying to figure out the true identity of Legend, to no avail, but hopefully that revelation is being saved for another book.  I felt I was genuinely experiencing Caraval with the characters as they wound their way through the maze of clues, illusions, and sabotage.  This book has sisterly love, a slow-burning romance, and many twists and turns that were unexpected in the best possible way.
