Having read previously “The Winter People”, I expected a solid suspense story mixed with just enough paranormal elements to make you shudder at times without giving you nightmares for weeks and this is exactly what I got.
The story centers around 3 generations of women living in London, Vermont. It starts in the near present with a terrible crime, the slaughtering of a family. The investigation is carried on by a local cop with past ties to the family but when everyone starts sharing memories about the family, the facts only get muddier and the border of the real and paranormal become perilously non-existent.
A story that will keep you on the edge of your seat and delight you page after page until all the family secrets are revealed. Fun fact – the author incorporates a historic detail: the filming and release of the movie “The Trouble With Henry” (which would become the only collaboration between director Alfred Hitchcock and actress Shirley MacLaine) was located in Vermont.
