The first in a new series by acclaimed writer David Baldacci ‘s lead character is Amos Decker, a man who has left the Burlington Police Department after tragedy has struck one too many times in his life. Amos Decker, a Burlington boy , raised in poverty and whose only ticket to get ahead in life was his height and talent with a football. Hid professional football career however wouldn’t last but one day after a rival team defender would tackle him with so much fierceness that he lose consciousness. The result of this injury is a rare condition called Hyperthymesia or the ability of remembering everything, in fact, in Amos’s world objects and occasions are assigned a color.
After quitting the Police Department and barely making ends meet as a private investigator, his life is about to change when a man comes out of nowhere and proclaims he’s the killer of Amos’s wife, daughter and brother. At the same time, a larger scale tragedy is happening, the shooting of innocent civilians in a nearby high school. When Captain Miller realizes that Amos can be an asset, he’s recruited as a consultant for the Police Department. All the clues point out a relationship between Amos and the killer. Now the man who can not forget must find that memory that can save the lives of more innocent people.
Another great thriller by David Baldacci about a broken man whose torture is to remember everything every day and in order to move on and become whole again must look inside his brain. A great set of secondary characters such as Detective Lancaster, the novice journalist Jamison and Captain Miller contribute greatly to the story. I for once can’t wait for the next book in this series.
