In the first book of this new series “Comfort Food Mystery” by Christine Wenger , we meet Trixie Matkowski ,who is recently divorced and moving out of Philadelphia to the small town of Sandy Harbor in Upstate New York.
Trixie has bought the “Silver Bullet Diner” from her Aunt Stella ,after Uncle Porky has passed away, in an effort to move on from her recent romantic life failures. It doesn’t hurt that Ty Brisco, the newly appointed Deputy Sheriff is rather charming. Trixie seems to be getting the hang of her new life as a Diner owner until the Food Inspector is found poisoned in her own kitchen. Of course, all circumstantial evidence makes her the number one suspect.
But as she and Ty start digging in the real causes of death, they uncover many possible suspects and motives.
As a foodie and a mystery lover, this book combines both elements so smoothly. The pace moves along fine and the characters starting with Trixie are rather engaging, even the secondary ones such as the Mexican short cook will grab your attention. A very lighthearted mystery, perfect for a lazy afternoon. The setting of this book is a small tourist town and that will bring out anyone’s childhood memories of family vacations and the diners that we all have visited at least once in our lives.
