This book relates the interesting back story about the song “White christmas” written by Irving Berlin and popularized by many singers but most specifically became the trademark song of the movie “Holiday Inn”and “White Christmas” as sang by the legendary crooner Bing Crosby. If you celebrate Christmas or even if you don’t , you most likely have heard this song in any mall, store or establishment around the Christmas season. We all have fallen in love with this song and even hum it or sing it but although the song is probably imprinted in most American hearts has a fascinating story.
Originally, this song was supposed to be an inside joke to Californians whom have never seen a snow-covered Christmas. The carefully chosen release date of the movie featuring the song catapulted “White Christmas” almost like an anthem for our troops outside of the United States during World War II. At the time when there were not enough international releases, this became an international hit.
It was great to read about one of my favorite Christmas songs and all the little stories and landmarks that this song achieved back when it was released and how a simple song written by a man who couldn’t read or write music and was intended to be a pun became an American tradition in our homes.
