giverPoor Jonas. Living in a world of “Sameness”. Content to be in harmony with everyone else, until the Ceremony of the Twelve, when children are chosen for their life’s assignment.

Jonas is chosen to be a “Giver”, the one human charged with the memories of a world that has forsaken emotions, freedoms, color, and individuality in favor of orderliness.

The journey that Jonas undertakes is hard and fraught with anguish.

I came to read this later than most (it’s considered a Teen book), but am so glad I finally relented and read it. So well-written, with engaging characters and memorable imagery.

Don’t be put off by its label as Teen fiction. This has one numerous awards, and rightfully so. If you liked the Hunger Games and are a fan of dystopian fiction, do yourself a favor and read The Giver.
