I cannot enthusiastically recommend this book since the main plot line is rather ho-hum. However I did finish the book because there were several charming subplots that grabbed my attention. The best parts of the book consist of letters (not real) written to James Beard (a real person) during WW II (a real war) while he supposedly worked for the food magazine Delicious! (not a real magazine, but he did work for a real magazine during the war). Thoroughly confused yet? Pick up the book and give it a try!
