Meg Corey is a banker who has been recently downsized and while trying to figure out what’s next in her life moves to her family home that includes an orchard. Her family home requires a lot of TLC, more than she bargained for. When a former boyfriend turns up dead on her newly installed septic system, she becomes the first suspect. Located in the fictional town of Grantford,Ma someplace between Northhampton and Amherst, she is seen as a newcomer, moving from the big city (Boston) to rural Massachusetts, and feels ostracized by the strong community bonds. So she must plead her case with the help of a couple of new friends in town.
I have read the other series by Sheilla Connolly. Her books are very entertaining. Her stories are usually told very nicely with interesting bits of factual information about some organizations’ work. In this book the subject is small town government and orchards. The characters are rather introspective but they show guts when the moment arises. All in all it’s a greatly written book with a story that keeps you guessing til the end.
